Maurice Williamson

Maurice “Dutch” Williamson, 93, died at his Greensburg home on July 9, 2017 with his family present. He was born in Mahomet, IL on March 4, 1924, son of Guy C. and Ferne H. Williamson. His wife of 63 years, Sybil D. Williamson, preceded him in death along with his parents and two sisters, Lois Williamson and Alma Williamson Kantner. His son, David G. Williamson of Greensburg, daughter Lynne W. Cybulak and son-in-law Stephen J. Cybulak of Lincoln, MA and granddaughter Kasey E. Cybulak of Burlington, VT survive him, as well as his older brother, Wilfred Williamson of Mahomet, IL and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Williamson attended Mahomet schools, began college at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN and graduated with honors in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL. He was elected to Pi Tau Sigma mechanical engineering honor society and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society. He was a registered Professional Engineer and a member of the American Society of Professional Mechanical Engineers.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Williamson fought in Europe with a U.S. Army armored division as a mortar gunner. He was badly wounded in France during the Rhineland campaign, earning him a Purple Heart.

He retired as vice president from Elliott Company in Jeannette, PA after 32 years of service that took he and his family to St. Louis, New Orleans, The Hague, Netherlands, London, England and back again to Greensburg. He loved golf and was a long-time member of the Greensburg Country Club. He enjoyed computers and took several computer courses at community college while in his 70s. An avid reader, he served six years on the board of Greensburg Hempfield Area Library, two years as president.

Mr. Williamson’s family invites his friends to an informal gathering at 438 Mt. Thor Road, Greensburg, on Saturday, July 22, from 10 AM to noon.
