Raymond E. Shaffer, 83, of Greensburg, died February 4, 2016 at UPMC East Hospital, Monroeville. He was born in Armbrust on August 12, 1932, a son of the late Harry and Ruth Thomas Shaffer. He was a member of Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a Greensburg High School graduate in 1950. Raymond was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Air Force Strategic Command during the Korean Conflict. Prior to retirement, he was employed in the family business, Shaffer Implement Company and worked in the research and development department for Westinghouse, Churchill. Raymond was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing and his spare time was spent at the family camp in Potter County. He was a 32nd degree mason and was a member of Philanthropy Masonic Lodge #225, Free and Accepted Masons and the Masonic Consistory of Coudersport. He was a member of the NRA, VFW Post # 33, American Legion Post #981, Greensburg Moose Club and a lifelong member of the Youngwood Sportsmen’s Association. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his sister, Madge Shaffer Mansour and her husband Michael. Raymond is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joanne Miller Shaffer; a son Mark Shaffer (Marianne Elkin) of Greensburg; a daughter, Debra Barnett (Dennis) of Jeannette; grandchildren, Drew (Aimee), Derk and Denae Barnett and Bryan (Marci) and Dane (Kayla) Shaffer and Travis and Jenna Elkin; great grandchildren, Alaina Shaffer and Braden Barnett; sister in law, Georgia Ferguson (Bob); also, several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Monday from 9:30 AM until Raymond’s funeral service at 11:30 AM, in Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 271 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Greensburg, PA 15601. Private interment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. A masonic service will be held on Monday at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Harrold Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at the above address or to the Youngwood Sportsmen’s Association, 196 Sportsmen’s Road, Youngwood, PA 15697.
