Rita C. (Yost) Sleowsky, 96, of Greensburg, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2017 at St. Anne Home, Greensburg. Rita was born February 25, 1921 in Hahntown, North Huntingdon Township. The daughter of the late William and Katherine Yost. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, James M. Sleowsky on September 30, 1986; her brothers, Edward, Henry and Raphael Yost; and her sisters, Irene Jones Brivec, Cecelia Irwin, Regina Waltz, and Evelyn Sam. She is survived by her daughter, Janet C. Barker and her husband, Hal of Greensburg, and her son, James L. Sleowsky and his wife, Maureen of North Carolina. She is also survived by a loving granddaughter, Amy Sleowsky Bolch and her husband, Casey of North Carolina, many nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews. Prior to Rita moving to Greensburg in 1987 after the death of her husband, she was an active parishioner member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Irwin for many years. She served her parish faithfully as a C.C.D. teacher for elementary, middle and high school students. She additionally served with the parish C.Y.O. youth group. She also nurtured a lifelong love of gardening including flowers, vegetables, and cacti. Later in life she became active in a senior bowling league in the Greensburg area where she enjoyed competing for several years. She enjoyed her travels to many National Parks, beaches, cities, and resorts across the country with her daughter and son-in-law. She also treasured the good times she spent during her visits with her son and his family at their home in North Carolina.
Family and friends will be received from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 29, 2017 in the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 Main Street, Greensburg, PA where parting prayers will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main Street, Greensburg, PA with the Rev. Msgr. Raymond E. Riffle, officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Irwin. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Anne Home for their loving care during Rita's stay with them.
