Robert M. “Bob” Carpenter, 89, of Greensburg, died, Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital. Bob was born on January 28, 1932, to the late William and Emma Carpenter. After graduating from the Patton School for Fatherless Boys, he served his country in the United States Air Force. In 1954 he and his wife Peg returned to Greensburg and formed a partnership with Luke Wineman to form the construction company Wineman and Carpenter. Bob ran Wineman and Carpenter until 1993 when the name was changed to Carpenter Construction. He continued to lead the firm until his passing. Bob was a deep thinker and a devoted student of science, history, and philosophy. He could just as easily discuss the layout of a house as he could the latest developments in human cognition, literature, or the teachings of J. Krishnamurti. Bob served as an Elder and Youth Leader in the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg and supported the church throughout his life. The degree to which Bob inspired the lives that he touched; employees, subcontractors, clients, and design professionals throughout his career is inestimable. The lives that he touched, nurtured, and enhanced number in the thousands. He was loved by many and revered by all. Bob is survived by his brother William, his wife Peg, his sons Robert and William and his grandchildren Desmond and Isabelle. A memorial service for Bob will be held at 11 am on Saturday, April, 24, 2021 in First Presbyterian Church, 300 South Main Street, Greensburg.
