Sunrise June 1, 1939… Sunset May 21, 2017. Andrew “Andy” Kasic Sr., 77, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully at his home following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, on a beautiful Sunday morning.
Andy was born on June 1, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Andrew and Katherine (Paluha) Kasic. Andy graduated from West Newton High School in 1958, and went on to attend college at the University of Pittsburgh, where he played 4 years of varsity football. He taught Health and Physical Education for 38 years at West Newton High School, Yough Intermediate Middle School and Yough Senior High School, as well as coaching varsity football, basketball and baseball. Known affectionately as “Coach” Andy touched so many lives during his tenure, both in the classroom and on the athletic fields. His generous and charismatic personality endeared him to everyone he came in contact with.
Andy was an avid Pitt fan who enjoyed traveling the country to follow his beloved Panthers. He particularly enjoyed the annual trips to the Big East Basketball tournament in New York City with his two sons. He also loved spending time with his wife each year at his favorite place in the world, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Florida. Above all, Andy cherished every moment that he spent with his four grandchildren. They were, without question, the love of his life.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Katherine. He is survived by his loving wife Bonnie; and two sons, Douglas, his wife Jennifer, and their two children Shayne and Sabrina, of Greensburg, PA, and Drew, his wife Misty, and their two children Savannah and Andie, of Rock Hill. SC, and a special nephew, Matthew Casey of Niceville, Florida.
Visitors will be received on Saturday, May 27, from 12:00-3:00pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will follow in the funeral home at 3PM. The family asks memorial contributions be sent to the Hillman Cancer Institute in Andrew’s name at Development Department UPMC Cancer Pavilion, Suite 1B, 5150 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15232.
