Annie Laurie Martin, 95, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012. She was born Jan. 5, 1917, in Monroe County, Ala., the daughter of the late Anna and Boykin Dunn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willard J. Martin Sr.; and her son, Daniel J. Martin and a great granddaughter Sophia Darrenkamp. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Lydia Bailey; and her brothers, Beauford and Howard Dunn, all of Mobile, Ala. She is survived by her son, Willard J. Martin Jr. and his wife, Karen; two daughters, Ann DeMille and her husband, Curt DeMille, and Bernadette Boyce and her husband, Daniel Boyce; six grandchildren, Jill Darrenkamp, Laura Horst, Katie and Ben Martin, Eleanor Boyce and Dane Martin; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her nieces, Laureen Pugh and Eudora Davis, of Mobile, Ala., and many great-nieces and nephews. Upon completion of nursing training at Mobile Infirmary, Mobile, Ala., Annie Laurie enlisted in the Navy during World War II, where she achieved the rank of lieutenant J.G. While serving in Hawaii, she met and married her husband. They were married in the chapel at Hickam Field, Dec. 7, 1944. Annie Laurie and her family moved to Greensburg in 1949. Annie Laurie was a dedicated volunteer and was involved in starting Mutual Aid, serving meals at the Cathedral School cafeteria and volunteered at Westmoreland Hospital for more than 18 years. Annie Laurie was one of the first volunteers for the hospital's hospice program. She volunteered for the Red Cross through the Blood Bank for more than 30 years. In addition to her volunteer work, Annie Laurie was a member of the Greensburg Garden Club and also enjoyed cooking and sewing. Following her husband's death, Annie Laurie became a resident at St. Anne Home. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME (an authorized remembrance provider), 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. A remembrance service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Interment with full military services accorded by the South Greensburg American Legion Post No. 981 will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
