Anthony T. "Tony" Chelan, 80, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Mountainview Specialty Care Center.
He was born October 31, 1929 in South Greensburg, a son of the late Anthony and Anna Kralj Chelan.
Tony was a retired printer, working for various local printing companies for 46 years. Later he worked as the hearse driver for Kepple-Graft Funeral Home and several other funeral homes in the area.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg; a former charter member of the West Point Vol. Fire Dept., and a member of the National Management Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Vitiello.
Surviving are his loving wife of sixty years, Angeline L. Chelan; his beloved daughters, Linda Balles and husband Hank, and Cathy Piper and husband Mark; two brothers, Frank and Joseph Chelan; a sister, Ann Beveridge; and six grandchildren, Amy Roadman and husband Jason; Scott Balles and girlfriend Olga Ivanova; Robin Cervantes and husband Rafael; Jennifer Altman and husband Brian; Christopher Piper and girlfriend Kristen Varoli; Justin Piper and girlfriend Michelle Zajal; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke and Jacob Roadman, Addison Altman and Gavin Piper, and another expected in October; plus a number of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his "hobby" and best companion, his dog Jake.
Family and friends will be received Monday, May 10 from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Inc., 524 North Main St., Greensburg.
Parting prayers will be held at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated in Our Lady of Grace Church on Tuesday, May 11 at 9:30 a.m., with Msgr. Raymond Riffle officiating. (Everyone please go directly to the Church on Tuesday.)
