Anthony James Mediate, 87, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 31, 2024 at Concordia of Monroeville.
He was born March 27, 1937, in Wall, PA, the son of the late Rocco and Maria Francesca Mediate. He met his wife Donna in 1957 and they were married on November 5, 1960. Anthony or Tony as his friends and family called him, was a self-employed hairdresser for over 40 years. He opened Coiffures by Anthony in 1967 and then expanded to College Avenue where the business became a staple in the community. He was a well-known local figure in Greensburg and beyond.
Tony was an avid sports buff. Growing up playing baseball with his best friend and brother, Joe. He also played baseball for the Pirates farm league for a period of time. He then moved on to playing golf, which he loved to do with friends and family at Greensburg Country Club and Hannastown Golf Course. He instilled that love of golf into his son Rocco and was a proud Dad watching him excel on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour.
Tony was also a known for his Italian cooking. He loved to feed family and friends, and anyone interested! He and his golfing buddies would gather for dinner at the house on many a night.
More than anything, Tony loved being PapPap, or Double Pap as some called him, to his six grandchildren – Rocco Vincent, Nicco (and wife Thania), Marco, Blake, Logan and Francesca. He treasured the times he was able to spend with them and hear about their adventures and activities.
In addition to his parents Tony was preceded in death by his wife Donna, their son Vincent Michael. Tony’s children and family would like to especially thank Sue Eubank, Tony’s best friend for the unending support, love, care and kindness she showed our dad. She was our angel on earth. Sue’s family became Tony’s family in the past few years. Thank you to Chad, Joya Carmen and Ethan; Sheri and son Andrew, JoAnna and Steve and little Logan for sharing your family with our Dad. You will never know how much it meant to us and to him.
