Betty G. Appleby, 96, of Greensburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born April 14, 1916 in Greensburg, a daughter of the late John A. and Lucy Murray George, Sr. She was a graduate of Greensburg High School, Class of 1934 and her yearbook, the Brown and White best described this beautiful lady... "her eyes disclose what only eyes can tell."
Betty was a longtime employee of Bell Telephone of Pennsylvania which later became Verizon. She was a lifetime member of the Pioneer Volunteer Network and a lifelong parishioner of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. She also belonged to the Women's Auxillary of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department. Bridge and traveling were immensely enjoyed in her later years and she joined a group known as The Happy Travelers out of Ligonier. On one occasion she had the distinction of traveling aboard the QE2 on a most memorable voyage.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne F. Appleby and her son Thomas E. Appleby; sisters, Stella Loughner, Marie Welker, Gail O'brien, and Dorothy George; brothers, John, Richard and Gerald George.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Appleby Kubicek of Silverthorne, CO; sisters Margaret and Marjorie George of Greensburg, as well as her sisters-in-law Marjorie Appleby and Jeannette Appleby; a daughter-in-law Barbara Appleby of Greensburg; her grandsons, Joseph (Karen) of Ligonier, Shawn (Cathy) Appleby of Millsboro, DE, Dr. Tom Appleby (Susan) of Mechanicsburg and Scott Kubicek (Kara) of Apple Valley, CA; several great grandchildren and a recent great great granddaughter, who was born May 2012 in CA.

Family and friends will be received from 3-7 PM on Wednesday in the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Inc. 524 North Main Street Greensburg. A funeral mass will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral Thursday at 9:30 AM. Everyone, please meet at the church. Private Interment will be held at Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
