C. Bothel

C. Eugene (Gene) Bothel, 80, of Greensburg, PA, died on Monday, April 23, 2012. He was born March 10, 1932, near Creekside, PA, a son of the late Clair and Jesse (Shank) Bothel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Harry Yukenberg and Frank Bothel, and sisters Betty Snyder and Mary Louise Helman.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol (Cerovich) Bothel; daughters Patricia Gahagan of Indiana, PA, and Paula Witherow and husband John of Clymer, PA; sons Terry Bothel and wife Joanna (Bloom) of Marlton,NJ, and Scott Bothel and wife Lucy (Gulick) of Indiana, PA; grandchildren Andrew Gahagan; Michael Gahagan (Carrie); Katelynn Gahagan Rowe (Josh); Jennifer Witherow; Ashley Bothel Gallo (Mike); Shane Bothel (Jennifer); Tyler Bothel; and great-grandhchildren Grant, Gavin, Nick, Caleb and Joseph Gahagan; Luke and Taylor Rowe; and Olivia Bothel; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Originally a member of Plumcreek Presbyterian Church in Willet, PA, and Graystone Presbyterian Church in Indiana, PA, he most recently was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg, PA.

He was the retired owner/operator of Bothel's Floor & Wall Covering, and later of Bothel's Senior Citizens' Home. In his early days, he was a pitcher in the Indiana County Baseball League. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and bowling, as well as cooking, baking, and gardening. He was also a prize-winning winemaker. He enjoyed the friendships of fellow members of the Greensburg Kiwanis Club; Latrobe Elks; Hannastown Golf Club; and was on the executive board of South Meadow at Lindwood Condominiums of Greensburg. He will also be sadly missed by his Schnauzer, Ansel.

If you wish to donate to a worthy cause in lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be made to the Kiwanis Club of Greensburg to be used for local charities (345 Maple Drive, Greensburg, PA, 15601), or the Humane Society of Westmoreland County (PO Box 1552, Greensburg).

Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 North Main Street, Greensburg and Friday from 9:30am to 10:30 a.m. preceding the 10:30 a.m. funeral service at the funeral home. His ashes will be interred in the Plumcreek Presbyterian Church cemetery next to his parents' gravesite in Willet, PA at a later date.
