C. Robert Mentzer, 89, of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, in St. Anne Home. He was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Connellsville. He was the son of the late George K. and Ann O'Leary Mentzer.
Bob was the former owner of Bob Mentzer Ford in Greensburg before retiring in 1992. The dealership was in operation for a period of 32 years. Prior to owning the dealership, he was employed by the Ford Motor Company and had spent some years in the real estate business in Pittsburgh. He was a graduate of Monessen High School, class of 1942. He served with the Army in World War II, spending time with the 88th Division 349th Infantry in the Italian Theatre of operations. He was discharged after 33 months, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then attended Penn State University, graduating with the class of 1949. Bob was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church and the Latrobe Country Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucille Fitzgerald Mentzer, in 2012; a sister, Imogene Riester; and a brother, James F. Mentzer.
He is survived by one son, Marc Mentzer, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada; two daughters, Patricia Lantzy and her husband, Michael, of Greensburg, and Meg Clemans and her husband, Mark, of Sugarland, Texas; and five grandchildren, Lori, Joseph and Jill Lantzy and Lane and Abigail Clemans. Bob's family would like to thank the staff at St. Anne Home for their excellent care and compassion shown to their father.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. A prayer service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with a funeral Mass to follow at noon in Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg. Interment will follow at St. Clair Cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post 33 of Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Anne Home, 685 Angela Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601. Terence L. Graft, funeral director, entrusted with the arrangements.
