Carl A. Bodenschatz, 78 of Greensburg, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at Greensburg Care Center. He was born Dec. 7, 1931 in Charleston, WV a son of the late Arthur H. and Hazel Stephens Bodenschatz

He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the US Air Force as a first Lieutenant navigator/bombardier and spent one year in Korea. He lived many years in Champaign, Illinois and received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He joined Westinghouse's Graduate Student program in 1959 and was hired at the inception of the Westinghouse Astro-nuclear laboratory in Large, Pa. He spent a year in Los Alamos, NM testing the Nerva Nuclear reactor and more recently worked a the Westinghouse facility in Sunnyvale, CA. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg; Sigma Chi Fraternity, Pi Tau Sigma honorary mechanical engineering fraternity and was a former member of the BPOE of Latrobe. He was also an eagle scout.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers.

He is survived by three sons, Carl D. of Greensburg; Robert B. and his wife Judy of Warrenton, VA; Mark A. and his wife Heather of Boalsburg, PA ; and a daughter, Julie Kostenbader and her husband David of Greensburg; nine grandchildren and a brother, John of Charlottesville, VA.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday at noon in Charter Oak United Methodist Church, Greensburg with Rev. Chris Whitehead officiating. Private interment will take place in St. Clair Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christian Laymen Corps Beds 258 E. Pgh. St. Greensburg, Pa or the Salvation Army E. Otterman & St. Clair Sts. Greensburg, Pa. 15601. Arrangements have been entrusted to KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St. Greensburg.
