Carroll "Chris" W. Phares, 86 of Greensburg, passed away Friday, September 24, 2010 in Excela Westmoreland Hospital.
He was born, June 13, 1924 in Uniontown, a Son of the late Carroll Phares and Ruth N. Hinchman Phares Miller.
Chris was a Sergeant in the US Army during World War II and later served during the Korean War.
He had attended the Univ. of Pittsburgh and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
Chris was a retired Engineer for Bell Atlantic Co. with 37 years of service and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He also was a member and former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the First Baptist Church in Greensburg and also served as Church Historian. He belonged to Philanthropy Lodge # 225, Tri-City Meals on Wheels, and was a Westmoreland Hospital Volunteer, and the Pre-School Vision Screening, Westmoreland County Literacy Council and the Gateway Life Member Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude W. Phares (2010).
Surviving are a Daughter, Gretchen Phares Carpenter and husband Dennis, two Granddaughters, Kayla Ruth and Korinne Michelle Carpenter, a Sister-in-law, Lois Anne Wible Solobay, a Niece Rebekah Solobay, and Godson Jeffrey Shaffer.
Family and friends will be received Monday from 1-5 PM at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Inc. 524 North Main St.,Greensburg.
A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home, on Tuesday at 1:30 PM with Rev. Dr. Cliff Hockensmith officiating.
Interment will follow in the Westmoreland Co. Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1228 Brinkerton Road, Greensburg, PA 15601 in his memory.
