Charles Owen

Charles Edward Owen, 86, of Greensburg, died Sunday, April 12, 2015 in New Haven Court at Lindwood, Greensburg.

He was born in Lathrop, MO on August 18, 1928, a son of the late George E. and Lucile E. Hartzell Owen. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Greensburg, where he was one of the pillars of the church, former chairman of the board and trustee. Charles served on various state and national Christian Church boards and the church's financial committee. He served with the US Army Signal Corps and Army Security Agency during the Korean War. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the University of Kansas. Prior to retirement, he was employed in management at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in the Pittsburgh region. Charles' expertise was in quality improvement and quality assurance to meet customer and corporate business objectives. He was lauded by the Navy when he developed and implemented a quality achievement program which helped reduce manufacturing defects by 75% for all Nuclear Navy contractors. Charles was an Eagle Scout, enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and travelling all over the world with his wife.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Sunberg. Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anita L. Sauder Owen; 3 sons, George E. Owen (Linda) of Manor, John H. Owen (Jan) of Greensburg and Paul L. Owen of Elkton, MD; 3 grandchildren and a great grandchild; a sister, Eleanor Goldsmith; also, a number of nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 134 Mathews Street, Greensburg. Please, everyone go directly to church.

Entombment will follow in St. Clair Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church Stained Glass Window Fund, 134 Mathew Street, Greensburg, PA 15601 or to the Alzheimer's Association, Pittsburgh Office, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite 201-E Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
