Charles Seamens

Charles McIntosh Seamens, 86, of Greensburg, passed away on December 23,2021,  surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on October 31, 1935 in Greensburg to the late Ray Everett and Margaret McIntosh Seamens.
He graduated from Greensburg High School with the Class of 1953. During high school, in 1952, he proudly attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He continued his education at Saint Vincent College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in 1958.
After college, he was accepted to Navy Officer Candidate School, (OCS). Upon successful completion of OCS, Aviation Officer Candidate School, and Aviation Flight Training, he was designated as a Naval Aviator and Patrol Plane Commander. He received his Wings of Gold in 1960.
After leaving the Navy in 1964 as a full lieutenant, he worked for the IBM Office Products Division in Fairmont, WV. He was promoted to the Washington, DC division and in 1966 moved back to Pittsburgh with Honeywell Data Processing, bringing his family back home to Greensburg. In 1972, he founded and built a successful insurance and marketing firm where he worked until his retirement.
He was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral where he served for over 45 years as a lector and was on the parish council. He was a charter member of the Toastmasters International Leadership Organization in Fairmont, WV. He was also an avid golfer and a member of Hannastown Golf Club since 1970, where he served on the board of directors. In addition, he was a board member of the Westmoreland County Chamber of Commerce, past president of Mountain View Rotary, and past president and director emeritus of the Greensburg Community Development Corp. He was also a Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) for Gateway Rehabilitation Center and a daily volunteer and mentor at Gateway Rehabilitation where, for over 35 years, he counseled with the theme, “There is a Better Way to Live”. He also proudly served as a trustee of the Westmoreland Frick Hospital Foundation and served as chair of the distribution committee since 2010, where he also served as an emeritus trustee.
He was predeceased earlier this year by his loving wife of 64 years, Dora Vallano Seamens and is survived by his children Charles M. (Kelli) Seamens, Jr., MD of Nashville, TN, Sueanne (Enzo)  Zoratto of Pittsburgh, PA, Marcia (Larry)   Walsh of Greensburg, and Kristen (Geoff, MD)  Kurland of Pittsburgh, PA.; grandchildren Patrick (Madison) Seamens, Alexandra McIntosh (Gilberto) Navarro, MD, Olivia M. Zoratto, Julia M. Zoratto, and Leigh (Mark) Miller; and great-grandchildren, Miller Seamens, Audrey, Lance & Kate. He is also survived by his brother, Col. Howard R. Seamens (Donna), and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, from 4 to 7 pm at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg.   A funeral mass for Charles will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 9:30 am in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 North Main Street, Greensburg.  Everyone is asked to go directly to the church.  Those attending the gathering and funeral mass are encouraged to wear a mask.
