Clyde H. Jaynes, Jr., 91, formerly of Greensburg PA, passed away on December 7th, 2018 at St. Mary’s Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD. Clyde was born in Greensburg to Clyde H. Jaynes Sr. and Helen Gray Jaynes on April 10, 1927. The oldest of five children, he joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in Italy during WWII. He was employed by the Westmoreland County Municipal Water Authority for almost 40 years and rose through the ranks from laborer to the Superintendent for the County. Throughout his life he gave back to the community as a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, VFW, American Legion, volunteer fire fighter, Little League umpire, softball coach, President of the Lion’s Club, and even served as Santa Claus for multiple organizations. His passion was playing golf, especially with his children and grandchildren and he was lucky enough to be able to play golf with his great-grandchild, Christopher. He was also an avid fan of western movies and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rose Lago Jaynes; his daughter, Theresa “Tess” Mangini; son, Richard Mangini; and brothers, Robert and Kenneth Jaynes. He is survived by his daughter, Rear Admiral CJ Jaynes, US Navy (retired) of Leonardtown, MD; son John Mangini, Sr. (Barbara) of Murrell’s Inlet, SC; daughter-in-law Sandy Mangini of Woodbridge, VA; his Wednesday lunch buddy and extended family member, Mary Hall of Leonardtown, MD; sisters, Kathy Sager of Greensburg, PA and Nancy Eicher of Austintown, OH; grandchildren Melissa Wilcox (Joe), John Mangini, Jr. (Stephanie), Brian Mullen (Jennifer Kelly), Denise Mangini (Kent Andrews), Christina Mangini, and Alexis Jaynes; and great-grandchildren Christopher, Leanna, Elizabeth, Asa, Gabriel and Aleah.
The family would like to thank Spring Village/Discovery Commons Assisted Living Facility, MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Nursing Center, and Hospice of St. Mary’s County for the love and care provided to Clyde at the end of his journey.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, December 14th from noon until the time of service at 2pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601.
