Crystal L. Stone, 59, of Jeannette, PA passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025. She was the wife of Douglas H. Stone. She was born November 21, 1965 in Greensburg, PA, the daughter of Joyce (Murray) and Frank Kovatch.
Crystal is survived by her son, Cody Kern, and three step-daughters, Lauren (Stone) Dexter, Savannah Stone, and Ashley Stone. She is also survived by four siblings: Lisa Baker, Frank Kovatch, Diane Demorest, and Brandi Beeman along with several nieces and nephews.
Crystal grew up in the greater Greensburg area and graduated in 1983 from Hempfield Area District. She later put herself through college while working at West Penn Power and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She was very proud of these achievements and demonstrated a strong work ethic and high level of commitment. Crystal worked for several technology companies following her days at West Penn Power, honing her skills as an information technology consultant in disaster recovery, supporting large corporations like Nissan and United Airlines among others.
Crystal and Doug met nearly 15 years ago before marrying in 2018. They developed and shared a loving relationship taking on life’s challenges as a team. They each retired in 2021 having plans to enjoy life with family and friends and the opportunity to travel. The two seemed almost inseparable.
Crystal truly enjoyed caring for others. She was active at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg as a Deacon, serving on the Mission Committee, serving Second Sunday Suppers, and assisting with the creation of a telecast system at the beginning of the pandemic. She assisted as a volunteer with the county food bank and had a real passion for supporting the Westmoreland Cultural Trust, especially participating with their annual Party at the Palace fundraiser event. Also, Crystal enjoyed photography and for many years photographed Latrobe baseball and football teams as well as cheerleading squads, weddings, and senior photos. Crystal was never one to shy away from work; she jumped in whenever there was a need and gave it her all.
When not working or volunteering, Crystal enjoyed time at or on the water, walking and fitness, learning to play pickleball, nurturing her flowers and herbs, visiting museums and art galleries around the country, and spending time with family and friends, including all of her adopted nieces and nephews. She could often be found walking the beach in search of shark teeth, boating, or sitting poolside with a good book and a cold drink. Her loving and caring ways along with her big, bright, beautiful smile will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held Sunday 2pm-6pm, January 19, at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601.
