Dabney T. "DT" Martin III, 81 of Jeannette, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
DT was born November 13, 1931 in Newark, NJ., later to grow up and spend his youth in Haverhill, MA. Upon graduation from Haverhill High School, he enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War where he served his country as an Aviation Electronics Technician, USS Wasp. Upon discharge, he graduated from Merrimack College, North Andover, MA, and pursued a career as a technical writer in Pittsburgh, PA as Westinghouse/Bettis and Owens-Illinois. Using his effective organizational and interpersonal skills, DT moved on and efficiently led the Human Resources Department at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA and retired from the same position at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, Harmarville, PA. DT was very devoted to his varied careers, but also his many interests, including: theater, antique automobiles, and antiques and collectibles. At the Apple Hill PLayhouse, he could be seen regularly in various roles. At one time, he was the nation's contact/distributor for antique Oldsmobile car parts and a participant in seasonal Carlisle flea markets and car shows.
In his antiques and collectibles business he was known as the Wizard of Odds and Ends, or Dr. Wiz for short. DT was an ardent reader, prolific writer, and a superb storyteller.
He leaves behind three daughters - Eileen, Vicki (Gail) , and Kelly (Pat) (his daughter Cathy, predeceased him in 2004); one son - Michael (Nancy); four grandsons - Rich, Jr. (Chrissy)m Jackson, Finlay, and Kelly; one great-grandson - Richard III; one niece - Carol (Kevin) and her family; and two nephews - Doug (Allie) and Steven. Also surviving him are his daughter's mother , Sally (Joe, deceased); his son's mother , Irene, and his very dear friend Dawn Harriet and her family. DT was the brother of the late Donald (Margaret, deceased), and son of his late parents Dabney, Jr. and Elsie.
Family and friends will be received Saturday from 12pm to 4 pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home, (an authorized remembrance provider) 524 North Main Street Greensburg, Pennsylvania. A remembrance service will be celebrated at 4pm on Saturday at the funeral home with DT's friend, Pastor Carlisle V. Lloyd as celebrant. VFW Post 33 to provide military honors.
