David Pershing Sr.

November 15, 1930 — August 10, 2020

David Martin Pershing Sr., of Greensburg, child of God, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 10, 2020.  He was predeceased in 2010 by his best friend and beloved wife of 52 years, Marjorie Janine Stephenson Pershing.

David was born in Greensburg on November 15, 1930 to the late Frank E. Pershing Sr. and Anna Mae Deal Pershing.  Prior to retirement David owned Pershing’s Used Furniture Store, founded in 1926.  Additionally, David and his brother Charlie owned Pershing Vending Company, founded in 1958, with a territory across Westmoreland County.  He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Last Tuesday Book Club and Kirk Bell Ringers.  Throughout his life he was a member of the Greensburg YMCA and the Greensburg Elks Lodge 511.  David was a 1949 graduate of Greensburg High School and a 1957 graduate of University of Pittsburgh with a degree in economics.  He served in the Coast Guard from 1951 to 1954 as an Engine Man 3rd class Petty Officer and was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Medal.

In addition to his wife Marjorie, David was preceded in death by his three brothers Frank Pershing Jr., Samuel Pershing and Charles Pershing.  He is survived by his six children Janine Pershing Wright, Rebecca Pershing Golobish, David Pershing Jr., Carolyn Pershing, Elizabeth Pershing and Marjorie Pershing.  Also, he is survived by grandchildren Laura Golobish, Melissa Golobish and Dieter Wright, as well as sister-in-laws Carolyn Falcon and Nancy Apel.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg with the Rev. Dr. Martin Ankrum officiating.   Memorial gifts may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, P.O.
