Doris Hiller

Doris B. Hiller, 91 of Greensburg, passed away, Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg.

She was born February 2, 1922 on a farm near Hecla, daughter of the late David C. and Alice (Rumbaugh) Byers.

She was a graduate of Hurst High School and Greensburg Business School. She then worked for Robertshaw Thermostat and later for the Water Authority in Greensburg.

In 1954, Doris married Robert F. Hiller and traveled with him around the world. Robert specialized in forestry at the University of Maine and Syracuse University. His knowledge of Lumber and wood products led the Hillers to travel to and live in, Europe, Singapore, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, South Africa, and Australia. That is why in addition to her native English, Doris learned to speak, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Mandarin Chinese.

She also studied dance and piano for many years.

Doris has been a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Greensburg, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Order of the Eastern Star in Massachusetts.

Besides her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. Hiller, brother, John Byers, and sister, Helen Friedline.

Surviving are her niece, Patricia Rundy and husband, Robert.

Family and friends will be received Thursday from 4- 6 pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home, (an authorized remembrance provider) 524 North Main Street Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00 am with Rev. Steve Craft officiating.

Interment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Redstone Highlands 6 Garden Center Drive Greensburg, PA 15601.
