Doris E. Nevin, 88, of Greensburg , formerly of the Elizabeth-Monongahela area, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg . She was born in Elizabeth , Dec. 25, 1922, and was a daughter of the late James Gordon Nevin Sr. and Mary Sloss Nevin. She was a graduate of Elizabeth High School in 1940, and Slippery Rock University in 1944 with a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education, and a master's degree in education in 1948 from the University of Pittsburgh . She was a retired teacher, coach and administrator with 36 years of service in Western Pennsylvania . Schools in which she taught: Donora Senior High School, 1944-49; Geneva College , Beaver Falls, 1949-1960; Elizabeth Forward School District, 1960-62; and California University of Pennsylvania, 1962-1980. She had been a member of various professional and civic organizations on a national, state and local level. Prior to moving to Greensburg in 1986, she was an active member of Bethesda United Presbyterian Church, Elizabeth. In Greensburg , she was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg , and was active with the Presbyterian Women, Lois Circle , Strock Bible Class, Highlanders and the mission committee. She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews; 31 grandnieces and -nephews; 36 great-grandnieces and -nephews; and a great-great-grandniece. She was preceded in death by a brother, J. Gordon Nevin and his wife, Marian; and by three sisters, Lucile Nevin Smith, wife of Dr. Albert B. Smith, Marie Nevin Johnston, wife of the Rev. William R. Johnston, and Ruth E. Nevin. Doris' wishes were to have no public visitation. A committal service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Round Hill Cemetery Chapel, Elizabeth Township . A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church, Greensburg , with the Rev. Martin Ankrum officiating. Family and friends will be received after the service in the dining room area of First Presbyterian Church. Interment was in Round Hill Cemetery , Elizabeth Township.
