Dorothy O. Makar

June 26, 1939 — January 13, 2025

Dorothy Makar, 85, of Greensburg, PA, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025. She was born on June 26, 1939, in Slickville, PA, and spent most of her life in Greensburg, where she raised her family and became a cherished member of the community.

Dorothy was the loving wife of the late Andy Makar, who predeceased her in September 2023. Together, they shared a life full of love and devotion. Dorothy was a dedicated mother to her three sons, Scott Makar (and his wife, Tonya), John Makar (and his wife, Tracy), and Rod Makar (and his fiancée, Tina Zedlar). She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Spencer, Elijah, Tanner, Sydney, Ty, Mojo, and Giz.

Dorothy is survived by her sisters Veronica and Mary and her brother Frank. She was blessed to have a close-knit family, including many nieces and nephews, who will remember her with love and affection.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bob.

For many years, Dorothy worked as a caregiver to the elderly and disabled, a role in which she exhibited boundless compassion and selflessness. After retiring, she devoted herself to her family, always looking for ways to support and nurture those she loved. Her kindness extended beyond her family, as she was a loyal friend and neighbor who was always there for those in need.

In her final months, Dorothy was lovingly cared for at Elizabeth Seton Memory Care, where she won over the hearts of the amazing staff who provided her with such exceptional care. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and attention shown to Dorothy during this time.

Dorothy’s spirit of love, warmth, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through her family and the many lives she touched with her kindness and compassion. There will be no visitation and services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Greensburg. For online condolences, please visit www.kepplegraft.com.
