Edward Booher

Edward Bair 'Ned' Booher, 96 of Greensburg, passed away, Saturday, August 23, 2014 in Redstone Highlands.

He was born July 1, 1918 in Greensburg, son of the late Vance E. Booher, Sr. and Helen Bair Booher.

For many years he was part-owner and manager of Mountain View Inn, where he was vice president of the corporation. He retired from Mountain View Inn on July 1, 1985 after 45 years. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1936 and from Swarthmore College in 1940. He and his wife, Hazel Herd Booher, were married November 11, 1942. Ned was a veteran of World War II.

In his youth, he was active in scouting and was a former Eagle Scout and Assistant Scoutmaster. He was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels beginning in 1970 and serving for 42 years. He was also active in the Westmoreland County Historical Society and long-time member of the Greensburg Kiwanis Club. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg where he had served as deacon, elder, and trustee. Other civic activities included service as a member of SW PA Division, American Heart Association, Caregivers of SW PA and Redstone Presbyterian Senior care.

Ned enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of Hannastown Golf Club and later joining a league at Cloverleaf Golf Club. For hobbies he collected and repaired antique clocks and was a member of National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors . He also collected post cards of Greensburg and Lincoln Highway and was a member of Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor and Academy Hill Historic District.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Herd Booher, brother, Vance E. 'Bill' Booher, daughter, Jane Booher Schmidgal, as well as grandsons, Joshua Mooney and James J. Schmidgal.

He is survived by his two daughters, Helen B. Bush of Delmont and Elizabeth (Betsy) Mooney of Santa Barbara, CA, grandchildren, Amy, Anthony, and Sean Bush, Edward (Ned), Megan, and Eric (Chad) Schmidgal, and Lucas Mooney, and Christian Mooney, and also numerous great grandchildren.

Honoring Ned's request there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 30,2014 at 1pm in Redstone Highlands Chapel with Rev. Martin Ankrum officiating.
