Eleanor Virginia Mitinger, 87 of Murrysville, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. She was born in Greensburg on September 24, 1936, a daughter of the late Lucy (Berry) and Robert Bray Mitinger, Sr. A proud graduate of Penn State, with a Masters degree in Education, Eleanor spent the majority of her teaching career in elementary schools in eastern Pennsylvania. She enjoyed many world travels and visits to New York for shows with friends and relatives. Eleanor was born into a family of athletes – professional baseball and football players, coaches, referees and umpires. A lifelong fan, she rarely missed Pirates, Penn State and Steelers games. She was devoted to Ralph Kiner and once met Babe Ruth at a World Series game. Upon her retirement from teaching, Eleanor returned to Greensburg where she renewed old acquaintances and made many new friends, particularly her devoted circle at Redstone, including her dear friend Richard Beers.
In addition to her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her siblings, Lucy Kathleen Cress, Joseph Berry Mitinger, and Robert Bray Mitinger, Jr. She was the last member of her immediate family and is survived by a nephew, a number of nieces and their families.
Honoring Eleanor's wishes, services were held privately. Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.
