Emily Anne McRae Dahlmann peacefully passed away at home on January 22, 2023 at the amazing age of 101. Emily was born October 24, 1921 to her parents, Alexander Holmes McRae and Marion McGregor McComb McRae in Greensburg, PA. Emily was a graduate of Greensburg High School where she met James H. Dahlmann – her beloved Jimmy – and they shared “a love for the ages” for over 73 years. Emily was preceded in death by her parents, her Jimmy, an infant son (James), her brother, James McRae, and sisters, Marion Sherrow and Ruth Zink. Emily is survived by her four children James Jr. (Nadine), David (Kathy), Deborah, and Charles (Marla), eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Emily was the last member of our family from “The Greatest Generation” and she truly exemplified that spirit. For her entire adult life, Emily was a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ. Emily enjoyed being a wonderful homemaker and was known for her cooking and baking talents – always providing great meals for her family. She loved to keep her home beautiful and, up until late last summer, she could be seen cutting / trimming her grass, and pulling weeds. Emily was also very learned; She was a talented writer and completed crossword puzzles in remarkable time. Emily was always known for her quick wit and great humor. She loved spending time with family and enjoying good times with others. When she laughed, her beautiful face was accentuated by her dimples, earning her the loving nickname of “Dimps”. Prior to World War II and in their retirement, Emily and Jim enjoyed travelling and toured much of the USA, Mexico, and Europe – retracing the places where Jim served during the war and from where he lovingly penned memorable letters to his “Dimps”. Emily’s family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Excela Hospice and Home Care for their outstanding care and comfort with a special thanks to Dary Ann, Erica, Tammy, Stephanie, Becky, and Lori. Emily will be remembered for her love of God, family, and country. The world is not quite as fun without her. She will be greatly missed. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 10 AM until noon, followed immediately by the funeral service at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg. Interment will follow at the Westmoreland County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Reformed United Church of Christ of Greensburg or Excela Home Care and Hospice.
