Enola E. Erdley

November 2, 1930 — April 23, 2024

Enola E. (Bartels) Erdley, 93, of Greensburg, PA died April 23, 2024 in her home.

She was born Nov.2, 1930, in Lincoln, KS., the sixth of 10 children of John E. and Emma Schafer Bartels.

A talented hair stylist, Mrs. Erdley moved to Western Pennsylvania, where she raised her four children and made her home for nearly seven decades, following her marriage to James W. Erdley, an airman then stationed in Kansas.

The daughter of a Lutheran school master, she was a lifelong church member, serving as pianist, teacher and choir member, who was instrumental in organizing a children’s choir. When her children were growing up, she was a 4-H leader, passing along her inestimable style and skills as a seamstress to a new generation of clothes horses. She was a physical fitness buff long before it was popular and exercised daily well into her eighties. In recent years, she became a voracious reader of history and biography.

More than anything else, she blessed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with unconditional love and grace.

She was preceded in death by her former husband, James W. Erdley, a grandson, Anthony Triveri, a great grandson, Owen Adams and seven siblings, Raymond, Walter, John, Hubert  and Wendell Bartels, Isabelle Wendte and Erma Penn.

Mrs. Erdley is survived by two daughters, Debra Erdley Adams, with whom she made her home, and Charlene Triveri (Robert), of Wheeling WV, two sons, James Randall Erdley (Marta), of Yatesboro, PA and David John Erdley (Danny), of Louisville KY; eight grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two brothers, Arlon Bartels, of Lincoln, NE and Lester Bartels of Topeka, KS.

Services will be held at 1:45 p.m., Saturday, May 25 at St. Matthias Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greensburg, PA with the Rev. Paul Gruesu presiding. Her family suggests memorial contributions be directed to Camp Lutherlyn, P.O. Box 355, Prospect, Pa. 16052 or Easter Seals of Wheeling WV, 1305 National Rd., Wheeling WV 26003.
