Ernest (Ernie) Emmerling died at his home in Greensburg on February 13, 2024 after a long illness.
He was a remarkable husband to his wife of 39 years, Ann Emmerling, and a devoted father to two sons and a daughter-in-law: Samuel (Gina Dominick) and Jacob. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Laura); sisters-in-law Rosemary Emmerling and Mary Landkrohn; brother-in-law, David August; mother-in-law Jean McKenna; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Alice Emmerling, brothers, John and Charles, and sisters, Judith Probert Palm and Catherine August.
Ernie was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 20, 1955 and raised in Salem, OH.
Beginning his career as a radiologic technologist, Ernie then received his BS from Laroche University and his Master of Arts in Human Resource Management/Industrial Relations from St. Francis University. His career in training and quality improvement spanned many industries, including healthcare, banking, and manufacturing.
Ernie treasured spending time with family and friends and loved sailing, golfing, theater, music, and watching his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates. He volunteered at Blackburn Center for many years, coached little league baseball, chaired a soccer parents’ association, and painted sets for high school musicals. He was a gifted storyteller with a quick wit, infectious laugh, and big heart.
On Saturday, March 16, 2024, Ernie’s family is hosting a Celebration of Life service at 1:00 PM followed by an Open House until 4:00 PM at Ferrante’s Lakeview in Greensburg.
