Gerald A. “Jerry” Sutherland, 81, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, June 5, 2024. He was born December 2, 1942, a son of the late Alexander Arthur Sutherland III and Caroline “Betty” Smail Sutherland. He was a member of the South Greensburg United Methodist Church. As a youth, Jerry earned the rank of Eagle Scout along with various other awards and honors. He was elevated to the Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and a B.A. degree in Speech Communications. Prior to retirement, he was employed by PowerX, formerly Westinghouse Semi-conductor. Along with his wife Patty, he established a nursery where they raised various plants and shrubs. They also established a food catering business called Patty’s Pantry which they ran together for 32 years. Jerry was an active 33rd degree Mason and his Masonic record includes the following: Blue Lodge, Scottish Rite-Valley of Pittsburgh, York Rite, Royal Arch Chapter, Olivet Council No. 13, Kedron Commandery No. 18, and Knights Templar. Other masonic associated bodies and invitational bodies include: Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Knights York Rite Cross of Honour, Red Cross of Constantine, Allied Masonic Degrees, Knight Masons, Roland C. Fisher Mark Lodge No. 401, Royal Order of Scotland, Grand College of Rites, Commemorative Order of St. Thomas of Acon, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, Operatives, Order of Athelstan, and the National Association of Masonic Scouters. Jerry supported the Learning for Life, a program for challenged school-aged children, for over 25 years. To look broadly at Jerry’s life, his entire career has centered around training leaders and leadership roles. Jerry is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Patricia Joy “Patty” Sutherland; his children, Blaine Sutherland, Stacey (Sutherland) Handy, and Bruce Sutherland; his grandchildren, Shana Winkfield, Brent Sutherland, wife Jenny, Megan Doppelheuer, husband Aaron, Brandi Sutherland, Katie Handy, Kahla Sutherland, and Ian Sutherland; and his great grandson, Wesley Winkfield. He is also survived by his sister, Jill Allen of Myrtle Beach. Family and friends will be received on Monday, June 10th from 1pm until the hour of service at 6pm, by Rev. David A. Eichelberger. This will be followed by a Masonic service, both at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, located at 524 North Main Street, Greensburg, PA 15601.
