Grace Cooper Charley, 93, of Greensburg and Boynton Beach, FL died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 peacefully at her home in Greensburg surrounded by her children. She was born February 2, 1918 in Bradford, PA, the daughter of the late Ray and Isabelle (Bonner) Cooper. After graduating from Elmira College, she dedicated her life to the love of her life and husband, James Charley and to raising her six children; first at their log cabin and farm on Stoney Springs Road and then at their home in Greensburg. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and both she and James supported many charities and causes in the greater Greensburg/Pittsburgh area. Grace, lovingly known to her friends as Coop or GG, was wonderfully creative in artistic endeavors, seeing the world in new ways that came together in the works that adorned her home and many of those lucky enough to have known her. She will be fondly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James in 2005 and her sister, Betty Shannon. She is survived by five sons; Robert H. Wright, Jr. of Warrenton, VA; Cooper L. Wright and wife, Linda of Warrenton, VA; Christopher Charley of Greensburg; Ray Charley and wife Kate of Greensburg; David Charley and wife Rika of Tokyo, Japan; one daughter Rebecca Williams and husband Jonathan of Higganum, CT; one sister, Donna Archer of Vero Beach, FL; twelve grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. The family will be forever thankful and grateful for the dedication and loving care that was shown to us and to our parents by Magalita Pierre-Louis, R.N.. Truly an angel among us, Maggie became part of our family in 2005 and has been a steady and loving hand through the final days for both Grace and James. We would also like to acknowledge the gentle care that Grace received from her caregivers, Nancy Bemis and Amber Zelinsky. We have been fortunate to have had these women in our lives at this time. Family and Friends will be received from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm on Friday at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home , 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, at 10 am in the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1120 Harvey Ave. Greensburg . In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Westmoreland Hospital Foundation, 532 West Pittsburgh Street, Greensburg or to the American Red Cross-Haiti Relief Fund, 351 Harvey Ave. Greensburg.
