Grace I. Shaffer, 85, of Greensburg, passed away, Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Westmoreland Manor. She was born September 19, 1925 in New Bethlehem a daughter of the late Frank and Lula Mae (Crawford) Bish.
She was a graduate of Redbank Valley High School and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Youngwood. Grace had a simple faith. She would say, "God said it, I believe it, that settles it." While a homemaker for her family, she was a right hand for her husband of 65 years, Rev. Jay F. Shaffer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ian Patrick; two brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Jay F. Shaffer; five children, Daniel Shaffer and wife Linda of DuBois Pa; David Shaffer and wife Kathy of Ringgold; Mark Shaffer of Greensburg; Patricia Rega of Mt. Pleasant; and Susan Patrick and husband Michael of Greensburg; grandchildren, Danielle and husband Christopher Knarr of Stafford, VA; Jason Shaffer and wife Rebecca of DuBois; Melissa Brothers and husband Allan of Weedville, Pa; Christopher Shaffer and wife Melissa of Meadville; Angela Lucas and husband Joseph of Mt. Lebanon; Alexander Rega of Mt. Pleasant; and Meghan Patrick of Greensburg; great-grandchildren, Noah Knarr, Ethan Knarr, Josiah Shaffer, Claire Shaffer, Aslan Shaffer, Joelynn Shaffer , Alexa Rae Brothers and soon to be expected Asher Lucas. Also survived by her brother, Robert Bish and wife Carol of New Bethlehem and Kay Doverspike and husband Carl of Lighthouse Point, Fl.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 until 8 pm in Christ United Methodist Church, 100 Lincoln Ave, Youngwood, Pa. where additional visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 to 11 am the hour of funeral services. A reception will follow the service for family and friends. Private burial will take place in Mt. Zion Cemetery, New Bethlehem.
