Hazel Irene Budesky, 89 of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, passed away, Sunday, April 7, 2013 in Westmoreland Manor.
She was born February 10, 1924 in Luxor, PA, daughter of the late Bertha Jones and Stephen Budesky.
Hazel was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, since 1958.She will be remembered fondly by many children, now grown, for whom she taught Kindergarten Sunday School for 25 years, and the Cradle Roll, which provided appropriate religious mementos and gifts over the years. She was a past president of UMW and was instrumental in the 1999 Bicentennial committee along with Ellen Grubb for the church. She was narrator for the clown ministry and worked tirelessly to provide numerous beautiful slide shows as entertainment.Hazel provided leadership in the Wesleyan Service Guild, in which she took great joy in her preparations.Her ideas were always clever and she kept meticulous records. Especially memorable was the "Wild West Night" and her original "tea" dress in the fashion show.
Hazel loved poetry, quotes, good cooking, hummingbirds, the color blue, Precious Moments, costume jewelry, working puzzles, tulips, soap operas, country western music, good, loyal friends, and being introduced to Mrs. See's candies at the 1982 World's Fair.
She wore out at least five Bibles and owned many more, and kept Hallmark cards in business for many years. Hazel was a generous, gentle soul who never complained. She bravely fought breast cancer and kept her sense of humor till the end of her days. She will be remembered always for her beautiful complexion, her wonderful smile, and kind, gentle ways. We miss you already.
Survived by her loving sister, Nancy Salvio, and husband, Ben, of Greensburg, and brother Steve, and wife, Donna, of Delmont, also favorite nephews, Michael Salvio, and wife, Colleen, of Ocean City, MD.and Kevin Salvio, and fiancee,Kathy Reinheimer, of Pittsburgh, and beloved grand niece, Karly Bolon, and husband, Ken,and their dear little son, Kyle Benjamin, with whom she was smitten. Surviving are several other nieces and nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to thank all who took care of her on 2-D at Westmoreland Manor and for helping make her last year one with many new friends and excellent care. Special thanks to her cousin, Sally Venzin for helping make Hazel's days more comfortable.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home, (an authorized remembrance provider) 524 North Main Street Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11am with Rev. Steve Morse officiating.
Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
