Herbert Kramer, O. D. He was born April 22, 1924 to Sarah and Martin Kramer in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He passed away peacefully at the age of 100 at Redstone Highlands Greensburg on July 15, 2024. He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Lee Kramer. He enlisted into the Army Air Force to serve in World War II and served with the 452nd bomb group in England. After the war, he continued his education at Penn State College of Optometry. He served the people of Greensburg and the surrounding communities in their eye-care needs for 38 years. The mayor of Greensburg thanked him for his civic mindedness and his effort to make Greensburg a better place in which to live. He helped to establish the first Nordic ski patrol first aid station atop Laurel Mountain. He had life memberships in Masonic Lodge 231, ELKS 2313 and was a member of the Senior McKenna Center. He was honored with the volunteer of the year award at Redstone Highlands, and also served as the President of the Resident Board of Redstone Highlands. He is survived by nephews and their wives, Richard Levitt and Dr. Susanna Levitt of Pittsburgh, Dr. Ronald and Leslie Kramer of Colorado, and a niece, Elaine Levine and husband, Richard of Pittsburgh; In-laws, Regis and Nancy Farrell of Greensburg, Ken and Cathy Pyle of Greensburg, Sandy Pyle of Derry and Kathy Pyle of Jeanette.
