Hilda Mae Martino, 88, of Greensburg, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015.
She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in United, to Frank and Elizabeth (Shuki) Darko.
After graduating from Greensburg-Salem High School in 1945, she began working as an operator for Bell Telephone. During her years with Bell Telephone she became a member and eventually president of the Fort Pitt chapter of the Telephone Pioneers. Hilda and her husband, Johnny, frequently traveled after retirement making trips to Europe, Hawaii and Australia. They organized and traveled to several World War II Army reunions for the 81st Chemical Mortar Battalion Veteran's Association where Johnny was president and she secretary. Hilda and Johnny co-founded the musical group "Spark of Life" which played at area nursing homes. Hilda also served as a board member of the Westmoreland County March of Dimes.
Hilda is survived by a sister, Nancy Fauth, of Greensburg; four nephews, Lee Fauth and wife, Lisa, of Export, Randy Fauth and wife, Karen, of Jeannette, Chris Fauth and wife, Amy, of Greensburg, Greg Fauth and wife, Missy, also of Greensburg; four nieces, Sandra Pellenz, of Gold Beach, Ore., Dianne Heckathorn and husband, Michael, of Midland, Ga., Victoria Leone, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Kathy Leone and husband, Gregg, of Camano Island, Wash.; and by an uncle, George Dorko, of Latrobe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John N. Martino; and her sister, Agnes Leone. The family would like to offer special thanks to the many staff members of Greensburg Care Center who showed Hilda so much love and compassion during her residency there.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 300 N. Main St., Greensburg.
Entombment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
