James J. Campbell, 90, formerly of Southwest Greensburg, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at his daughter's home in North Irwin.
He was born in Vandergrift on Sept. 24, 1926, and was a son of the late Robert B. and Mary Johnson Campbell.
Jim was a graduate of the Greensburg High School class of 1944 and the class president. He had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was a graduate of the Pittsburgh Mortuary Science School class of 1946 and was a licensed funeral director. Jim was the owner of the Campbell's Confectionary in Southwest Greensburg, a drummer for 65 years and for many of the years had played with the Delmars. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg, the Westmoreland County Music Society and the Westmoreland Lodge No. 518 F&AM, along with the Tall Cedars Forest No. 77 and the Syria Shrine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Dorothy McWilliams Campbell; his second wife of nine years, Dorothy Shope Campbell; and his sister, Imogene Campbell.
Surviving is his daughter, Jeanne Campbell Suehr and husband, Clifton, of North Irwin; two grandchildren, Joanna (David) Gegorek and Christopher (Angela) Suehr; two great-granddaughters, Ramona and Maya; his stepchildren; his brother and sister-in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon till 1 p.m. Monday at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. No visitation Sunday. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Main St. Greensburg at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Martin Ankrum officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post 33, Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to First Presbyterian Church for air conditioning in Jim's memory. Kepple-Graft Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
