James(Jim) Phillip Cooper

Jim Cooper past into heaven Sunday, at Excela Hospital Greensburg, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Jim was the son of James and Dorothy Cooper of McKeesport,Pa.
He was proceeded in death by Jared Cooper (brother),Michael Sapone (grandson), and his parents. Jim was a graduate of King's Point Merchant Marine Academy in Long Island, NY where received a degree in Engineering. He served duty on many ships carrying supplies and troops to Asia & Europe during World War II. After graduation he was employed by Westinghouse for 42 years as a marketing manager. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Irwin where he serve on the board. Jim also was on the Irwin Borough town Counsel.
He was an avid golfer and member of Greensburg Country Club for many years, where he also served as a board member. For the past thirty years Jim was retired and a resident of Palm Harbor, Florida where he resided with his wife of 61 years ,Joan Cooper
Jim was a loving husband , father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was loved and respected by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His favorite past time was golf, golf, and more golf ! He had six "hole in ones" during his life, and played many courses over the years including in Scotland.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joan, daughters whom he adored, Cynthia Nicholson(David) of Webster,NY. Jane Sapone( David) of Greensburg, grandchildren Jennifer Rodgers( Dave) of Syracuse, Ny, David Schuler of Glendale, Ca., Rachel Ferguson(William) of Greensburg, Samuel Sapone (Lauren)of Latrobe. Great Grandchildren Cooper & Mason Rodgers both of Syracuse, Ny.
The family will be celebrating Jim's life with a private memorial service, there will be no public viewing.
