James Dahlmann

James H. Dahlmann of Greensburg peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, November 26, 2015 at the age of 95.
Jim is survived by his wife (of 73 years) Emily, his four children, James Jr. (Nadine), David (Kathy), Deborah (Dr. Paul Mahady), and Charles (Marla), eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Jane Bytheway, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was born to Charles and Christine Dahlmann. He is preceded in death by brothers, Charles Jr. and Elmer (Jack) and sisters, Margaret Randolph and Christine Murphy.
He was a life-long member of the First Reformed Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon for many years. Jim served as a First Lieutenant for the 187th Combat Army Corps of Engineers in WWII under General Montgomery and Patton and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His outfit fell upon a German Concentration Camp and helped liberate its many detainees. Jim was awarded the Distinguished Silver Star for Gallantry in Action at the Roer River in Holland in 1945. Jim worked at the Bell Telephone for over 30 years and retired in 1975. Jim rose to the position of District Traffic Superintendent and, at the time, was on the cutting edge of technology developing predecessor communication systems widely used today.

Jim was always known for his optimism and being a positive influence on those around him. He will be remembered for his love of God, family, and country. He will be greatly missed.
Viewing will be held on Sunday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg.
Services will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 10:30am.
Interment will follow in the Westmoreland Co. Memorial Park.
