James Lewis Shaffer, 85 of Greensburg, Passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2010 in Johnson City, TN.
Jim was born June 14, 1925 in Youngwood, a Son of the late Harry Elmer and Bessie (Miller) Shaffer.
He was a US Navy WWII combat veteran, Atlantic Amphibious Task Force.
Jim had 33 years of service as a fireman and Engineer with the Pennsylvania and Penn Central Railroads prior to his retirement.
He was a member of Hempfield Church of Christ for 50 years and the VFW Post #33 of Greensburg.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Robert Merle and Henry Elmer Shaffer, and Three sisters, Dorothy Barna, Alvirda Shaffer and June Gales.
Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Charlotte Ruth (Washington) Shaffer , two Sons, Scott Shaffer and wife Karen of Knoxville, TN, and David Shaffer and wife Kathi of Kingsport, TN, a Grandson, Timothy Shaffer and wife Catie of Jacksonville, FL, and Granddaughter, Caroline Shaffer of Knoxville, TN, a Brother, Donald Shaffer and wife Cora Ann of Youngwood, and Numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Family and friends will be received at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, Inc. 524 North Main St. Greensburg, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.
A funeral service will be held at the Hempfield Church of Christ on Wednesday at 10 am with Rev. Mike Hazelton officiating.
Interment with full military honors accorded by the VFW Post #33 will follow in the Westmoreland Co. Memorial Park
