James Sherrick

James W. Sherrick, 87 of Greensburg formerly of Edinboro passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 in Redstone Highlands, Greensburg. .

He was born in Scottdale on 12/6/1922 and was the son of the late James W. Sherrick Sr. and Grace Loucks Sherrick.
He graduated from East Huntingdon High School in 1940 and was a 1947 Graduate of the University of Minnesota with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.
He was an ROTC cadet while attending the University and served in the Army during WW II. He remained active in the Air Force Reserve until his retirement in 1982 as a Lt. Colonel. On December 29,1944 he married Lt. Irma T. Irvin an army nurse at Ft. Sturey, Va.
Most of his working career was as a mechanical engineer with the Lord Corp. in Erie. He was awarded 12 patents during his career and also presented a number of Technical paper before SAE and ASME National meetings. He retired as a staff engineer with Lord Corp in 1985 after 34 years of service.
He was active in the Erie Engineering Societies Council, serving as treasurer, Vice President and President.
He was a member of the Edinboro Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon, elder, trustee and Sunday school teacher. While he was living in Greensburg he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He was a member and past master of the Oasis Masonic Lodge #416 in Edinboro and the Scottish Rite Valley of Erie and the Zem Zem Shrine.
He was preceded in death besides his parents by his wife Irma Irvin Sherrick in 2002.
Surviving are his two daughters Teresa (Terry) Sherrick of Rocky Mount, Va. and Sara (Sally) Meltzer of Dayton, Ohio, two sisters Sara Adams Lester of Manzanola, Colo. and Lois Steele of Monroeville a brother-in-law Jack Irvin and wife Jean of Crofton, Md and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Wednesday at 1 PM in the Scottdale Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to either the Edinboro Presbyterian Church in Edinboro or the First Presbyterian
