James Smiley

James M. Smiley, 68, of New Stanton (Hempfield Township), died, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in Excela Westmoreland Hospital. He was born August 9, 1946, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late John Smiley and Velma Angell Benson. Jim worked for Super Valu in New Stanton. He served with the US Army from 1965 to 1968. He was a member of South Greensburg United Methodist Church. Jim enjoyed building and showing his car. Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Kathleen Howell Smiley; a daughter Marsha (Jason) Averill; two sons James K. Smiley and John J. Smiley; two grandchildren, Danny and Chelsea; a sister, Sharyn (Phil) Horrell. Friends will be received at Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 North Main Street, Greensburg on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Additional viewing will be held on Friday from 10-10:30 AM followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Jack Tickle officiating. Interment with military honors accorded by the South Greensburg American Legion will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Greensburg United Methodist Church, 411 Sheridan Avenue, South Greensburg, PA 15601.
