James S. "Star" Starenchak, 63, of South Greensburg, passed away peacefully Friday, June 7, 2013, at his home. He was born Nov. 30, 1949, in Greensburg, son of the late Christine (Pushinsky) and Nicholas M. Starenchak.
James was a member of PSEA and Trout Unlimited. Star was an avid fly fisherman, hunter and was chief cook at his hunting camp. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He retired as an assistant principal for Somerset Area School District after 35 years of dedicated service in education in the state of Pennsylvania.
Besides his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Edward and Nicholas Charles.
Surviving are his wife, Lois (Cunningham) Starenchak; daughter, Rhonda Sipes and husband, Eric; beloved grandchildren, Teagan Lee Starenchak, Ian Walker Sipes and Mallory Paige Sipes; his brother, Robert W. Starenchak and wife, Miriam; his sister, Janet Elliott and husband, Clyde; sister-in-law, Patricia Barnes; nephews, Robert D. Starenchak and wife, Amy, Eric C. Starenchak and wife, Keely, David R. Elliott and wife, Jill, and Brian C. Elliott; and niece, Lori Heckathorne; and grandnephews and grandnieces who he enjoyed so much, Urijah Charles Heckathorne, Codie Michael Starenchak, Chance Elliott, Peyton and Rachel Starenchak and Angel and Aspyn Elliott.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg.
Additional viewing will be held at 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Alpha Ministries Route 130 East, Greensburg.
Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
