James Thompson

James Kooser Thompson, 76, of Greensburg, passed away, September 22, 2010 in Excela Westmoreland Hospital. Jim was born October 4, 1933 in Manor a son of the late William Ray and Emma Rebecca Kooser Thompson.

Mr. Thompson was retired from Greensburg Salem School District as a school teacher where he taught German and Spanish. He was a veteran of the US Army serving as a chaplains assistant. He received his bachelors degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his masters degree from Duquense University. Jim was an active and faithful member of Christ Episcopal Church, Greensburg where he served as organist and choir director for over 30 years. He also served on the vestry of the church and was organist at several other churches in the area. He was a member of the Philanthropy Lodge #225 F & AM; the Gourgas Lodge of Perfection; Pittsburgh Syria Shrine; Syria Caravan #8; the Jeannette Court #25 Order of the Amaranth and was past royal patron; the William E. Gelston Chapter #435 Order of Eastern Star formerly serving as past patron and currently worthy patron. Jim served two terms as the Grand Organist for the Order of Eastern Star; two terms as grand choir director for Order of Eastern Star; two terms as Grand Musician for Order of the Amaranth and was currently serving as grand choir diector for the Order of the Amaranth.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Jean Schade and William R. Thompson, Jr.

Jim is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carla (Kent) Thompson; his beloved daughter, Christina F. Bompiani and her husband William J; loving grandchildren, William J. Bompiani II and wife Mandy; Michael C. Bompiani and fiance Danyell Hissem and Matthew T. Bompiani and girlfriend Carrie Sierka; a great grandchild, Kayla; a nephew, Elmer George Schade; and his Scottish Terriers, Maggie Mae and Bonnie Sue.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 pm and Monday from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm in the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, INC. 524 N. Main St. Greensburg. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 am in Christ Episcopal Church, Greensburg with Rev. Lawrence Knotts officiating. Entombment will follow in Westmoreland County Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Chruch, 145 N. Main St. Grg PA 15601 or Animal Friends of Pittsburgh 562 Camp Horne Rd. Pgh. Pa. 15237. The Order of Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service on Sunday at 3 pm followed by The Order of Amaranth service.
