Joan Spinella

May 4, 1960 — December 23, 2015

Joan Marie (Franklin) Spinella, 55 of Greensburg, passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer, December 23, 2015 at Excela Westmoreland Hospital.

She was born May 4, 1960 in Monaca, a daughter of Mary Louise (Callaghan) Franklin and the late Hubert J. Franklin, Jr.

Joan, a woman of strong faith was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral where she taught catechism and was active in several bible study groups. Joan loved nature and enjoyed walking, biking, and kayaking, visiting national parks, relaxing at the ocean and especially spending time with family and friends at Conneaut Lake. Joan was a kindhearted individual who served as a Girl Scout Leader and Big Sister for many years. She was an inspiration for many who were touched by cancer, never letting the disease change her optimism and zeal for life. Joan enjoyed each day as a gift from God and treasured life's simple moments. She was loved by all who knew her and was an instant friend to any one she met. Joan was an incredible person who's proudest achievement was her devoted family.


In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Franklin; father-in-law, Donald R. Spinella; and mother-in-law, Regina M. (Czekaj) Spinella.

Surviving are her loving husband, Donald 'D.J.' Spinella; daughter, Hannah Spinella; son, Michael Spinella; sister, Janis Franklin (Sisters of St. Joseph), brothers, Mark Franklin and wife, Eileen, and Dann Franklin and wife, Jeanne; sister-in-law, Cheryl Hall and husband, Keith; and nieces and nephews, Stephen and Kelly Franklin and Alex, Zachary, and Samantha Hall.

Family and friends will be received Monday, December 28 from 2 to 5pm and 6 to 8pm at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg.

A prayer service will be held in the funeral home Tuesday morning at 9am. A funeral mass will follow at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral 300 N. Main Street, Greensburg at 9:30 am.

Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
