Joanne J. Viano, 73, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014, in Greensburg. She was born July 29, 1940, in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Margaret and Joseph Viano. Joanne was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg for 43 years. Teaching French and English, she received the Chancellor's Distinguished Teacher Award for the University of Pittsburgh, as well as the Award for Distinguished Teaching at the Greensburg campus. She was the director of Special Programs for Women, co-founder of the college skills program, chair person of the Humanities Division, assistant to the Dean of Administration and assistant to the academic Dean during various times at the university. She loved teaching, reading and traveling abroad. Joanne was our beloved sister and aunt and is survived by her sister, Margaret Ambrose and husband, Scott, of Greensburg; her niece, Deborah Hauliska and husband, David, and her great-nephew, Robert Zontek, of Monroe, N.C. She lived for others and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the KEPPLE GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with interment services to follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
