John Benevich

August 12, 1919 — August 20, 2012

John Benevich, 93 of Delmont, formerly of Greensburg, passed away on Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Greensburg Care Center.

He was born August 12, 1919 in Luxor, PA, son of the late Michael and Sophie (Dolinsky) Benevich .

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor (Skonezny) Benevich in 1965, son, John Benevich Jr., daughter, Regina Nowalk, grandson, Aaron Nowalk, sisters, Anna Fetter and Catherine Jones, brother, Paul Benevich, and son-in-law, Thomas R. Hensley.

Surviving are his daughter, Phyllis Mayfield and husband, Ronald of Indian Lake, PA, son, Raymond Benevich of Greensburg, son, Richard Benevich of Delmont, daughter, Charmaine Hensley of Greensburg , Eight Grandchildren, Numerous nieces and nephews.

He proudly served our country as a member of the United States Army in WWII on the European front. He was wounded in battle three times for which he was awarded the Purple Heart as well as other commendations.

John held a lot of jobs in his life, including, being a coal miner, a meat packer, and a construction worker.

John was a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion and Young Voters. His hobbies included vegetable gardening, cooking - especially pierogies, playing cards and fixing things.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and aides at the Greensburg Care Center; the staff at Community Home Health; friends at Pershing Square; and Donna Pifer for their kindness and consideration.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the KEPPLE-GRAFT Funeral Home, (an authorized remembrance provider) 524 North Main Street Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 am with John's nephew, the Rev. Leonard Bealko presiding.

Interment with full military services provided by the VFW Post #33 will follow in the St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg.
