John William Pollins IV, 62, of Jeannette died Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 4, 1962, a son of Susan Laansma Pollins and the late John William Pollins III. Prior to retirement, he worked as a database administrator for UPMC Health System. John graduated in 1984 from the University of Michigan Residential College with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He was an artistic blacksmith, studying the craft at Touchstone Center for Arts and Crafts, and teaching blacksmithing for over twenty years in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). He was a member of the Worshipful Order of Blacksmiths and was very proud of a piece he designed, which is currently installed on the Bankside Gates of the Globe Theatre in London, England. He was involved in theater and musical theater for many years including at Greater Latrobe Senior High School, Class of 1980. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Heather Lynn Humphrey Pollins; his sons, John William Pollins V, and Frank Dean Pollins; his sisters, Suzanne Pollins MacLennan (Andrew) and Christina Elise Pollins; three nieces, Kayla Anne MacLennan (Oliver Rubens), Megan Parry MacLennan, and Ella Mae Maude Shackelford. In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A celebration of John’s life will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Pollins family farm in Unity Township at 4:30 PM, followed by a bonfire and sharing of stories and memories of John. In lieu of flowers, John has asked that any memorial gifts be directed to research for cancer (https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/campaign/In-Memory-of-John-W--Pollins-IV) or stroke (https://ahatribute.funraise.org/fundraiser/johnwpollinsiv).
