JOSEPH B.BOYD, 87, of Greensburg died November 25th at Redstone Highlands with his family at his side. Born November 20, 1923 in Greensburg, he was the only child of Ethel Baker and Joseph Poorman Boyd. Joe was a member of the Greensburg Salem High School Class of 1942. Employed as a railroad engineer and fireman for 44 years he retired from Conrail in 1986. Joe served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as Gunnery's mate 2nd class on the USS Core and the USS Albemarle. After meeting his future wife at a local football game, he married his soul mate, Jeny Iannuzzo, on Thanksgiving Day, November 25th, 1948. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ in Greensburg, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The American Legion, The National Model Railroad Association, the Train Collectors Association, and the Westmoreland Society of Model Engineers. He was also a devoted driver for Meals on Wheels for 16 years.
Mr. Boyd was a competitive golfer and a serious model train collector. He belonged to Hannastown CC for many years, loved to play the game of golf and watch it on TV. Before moving to Redstone, he had built an elaborate three level train layout in his home that he enjoyed sharing with his friends, the Boy Scouts and members of the community.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jeny; four daughters, Barbara B. Dunnett and husband Kenneth of Fort Mill, S.C.,Joan M. Marcinko and husband Leonard of Atlanta, Georgia, Jamie L. Boyd of New York, New York, and Lisa A. Greener and husband Charles of Lake Bluff, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Mary D. Arden, Jeny M. Maier, Michael A. Dunnett, Jamae T. and Julie A. Marcinko, Joseph B., Charles A. and Samuel L. Greener; two great- grandchildren, Aiden M. Dunnett and Gabriel W. Arden.
Family and Friends will be received at Kepple Graft Funeral Home, 524 N. Main Street Greensburg on Saturday from 1pm to 4pm. A Funeral service will be at 12:30pm on Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Steven L. Craft of the First Reformed United Church of Christ officiating.
Private entombment will be held in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery with military honors.
