Karl Sieber

Karl E. Sieber, 88, of Greensburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2014, at his home. He was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Turtle Creek, the son of the late Carl and Elizabeth Sieber. He served as a pilot during World War II and Korea with the Naval Air and was active in the Naval Air Reserves. Karl graduated in 1950 from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in chemical engineering. He worked for Corning Glass, initially in their research labs, and later to establish manufacturing plants around the country. After Corning, he worked as a plant manager for Smith Glass. At the age of 40, he formed his own company, Vitrifunctions, which formulated and manufactured specialized glass powders for the electronics industry. He was a member of Mountain View Rotary, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the American Ceramics Society. Karl is survived by his wife, Joanna Dean Sieber; three sons, Mark C. Sieber and wife, Mindy, of Boston, Mass., Karl G. Sieber and wife, Karen, of Dublin, Calif., and Kurt G. Sieber and wife, LuAnn, of Greenville, S.C.; also four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. Interment will be private in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
