Kathleen Bittner

Kathleen Hunger Bittner died peacefully Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014, in her home at Newhaven Court in Greensburg, at the age of 83.

Born in Arnold, to George and Lillian Hunger, she married Dean Bittner in 1951 at Heinz Chapel on the University of Pittsburgh campus. The two moved to Oakmont and later Penn Hills, where Dean was an executive with PA National Insurance Co. while Kathleen taught guitar lessons from their home. Both were active in their church, Laketon Heights United Methodist Church, and when they moved to Delmont, Faith United Methodist Church. They also enjoyed volunteering with their friends at the annual St. Bartholomew Church festival. During those years, Kathleen co-owned and operated a deli in Regent Square and volunteered with the Wilkinsburg Junior Symphony Orchestra. She was a patient and supportive teacher interested in developing musical talent in children.

She was the devoted mother of three: daughter, Kim Rauch (Gary), of Greensburg; and sons, Paul (Donna) Bittner, of Erie, and David Bittner, of Phoenix, Ariz.; Kathleen also is survived by 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Jean Galvin.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; and her sisters, Shirley Woods and MaryAlice Martin.

Viewing will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, 2014, at Faith United Methodist Church, 305 Freeport St., Delmont. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church.
