Lawrence J. Weyandt, 83 of Greensburg, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010 at his home.
He was born Thursday, September 16, 1926 in Jeannette , and was raised in Miller's Woods which is now Westmoreland Mall and was the Son of the late Frank and Grace Weyandt.
Lawrence was the retired Deputy Warden for State Correctional Institution of Pittsburgh . He started at the prison in 1952 and advanced to become the deputy warden. He served 35 1/2 years during which time he was a resident in Scott Twp.
Lawrence had survived a stabbing attack at the prison in 1965 and was a very well respected law enforcement officer by all who knew him.
He is a member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Greensburg and a lifetime member of Hecla Sportsman's Club, Hannastown Rod and Gun Club, Youngwood Sportsman's , Keystone Rod and Gun Club , Collier Sportsman's Club and the Lloyalhanna Sportsman's . He also was a member of the Penna Prison Warden's Assoc. and the NRA.
Lawrence was an avid hunter especially loved hunting ground hogs with his Uncle Robert.
He was preceded in death by his besides his parents by his son Richard in 1995 and a brother Dan Weyandt.
Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years Lois Schlingman Weyandt and his daughter, Sharon Burns and husband William, a Granddaughter Melissa Cunningham and husband Dan and his Great-Grandson Gracin Lawrence Cunningham.
Family and Friends will be received Monday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 N. Main St. Greensburg.
Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, at 11 am with Rev. Steven Craft officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hillview Cemetery.
