Leona A. Burkholder, 87 of Hempfield Township died Saturday 2/21/2015 in the Hempfield Manor. She was born in Hempfield Township on 9/29/1927 and was the daughter of the late Walter R. and Tirzah Long Altman. Leona was a retired secretary for the school board for Hempfield Area School District and was a graduate of Greensburg High School class of 1945.
She was a member of the Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, Church Choir, Women's Association , the church Altar Guild and a faithful attender of the Friday morning Women's Bible Study .
Leona was a long time secretary for the Harrold Grange and the Harrold Western Squares. She enjoyed her traveling and bowling.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband J. Kenneth Burkholder in 1999 and a sister Clara Altman Millward.
She is survived by her sister Anna A. Hawley , her brother-in-laws Tom Burkholder and Jack (Virginia) Burkholder and a sister-in-law Dorothy (Dot) Steele and her devoted nieces and nephews, Joyce Wineland and friend Bruce , James (Cheryl) Millward, John (Mary Lou) Millward, Richard (Beverly) Hawley, Dawn (Jay)Getz, Marie (Ron) Wilson, Jeanne (Delver) Smith, Thomas (Charlotte) Burkholder III, Maryann (Joe) Zelenak, Scott Steele and friend Donna and Jacqueline Burkholder.
Family and friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Kepple-Graft Funeral Home, 524 N. Main Street, Greensburg with additional visitation on Tuesday at the Harrolds Zion Lutheran Church from 10 am till 11 am at which time services will be held with Rev. John Smaligo officiating. Interment will follow in the Harrold Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials to the Harrold Zion Lutheran Church, 671 Baltzer Meyer Pike, Greensburg, Pa. 15601
